Does Chocolate Prevent Heart Attacks
People have enjoyed eating chocolates for years and have continued to do so, consuming large amounts, without reverence of the negative effects it has on teeth and weight gain. Doctors have realized that consumption of chocolate is not at all times bad, in the medical journal hypertension (July 2005) indicates that, eating dark chocolate reduces high blood pressure. In the 17th century, it was believed that chocolate had healing powers; it often treated anemia, tuberculosis by stimulating the kidneys, strengthening the heart and relieving heart pain.
The antioxidants found in cocoa beans, fruits and vegetables lower blood pressure. Dark chocolate contains antioxidants namely catechins and phenols, which prevent heart disease. The phenols act as deoxidizing agents therefore prevent the clogging of arteries, which causes heart attacks. Dark chocolate is bitter and therefore candy industries add sugar and fat to sweeten it, these added sugars raise blood sugar subsequently causing diabetes.
