United States have set up special health insurance coverage to certain specific groups of citizens. Medicare is the health insurance program started for covering people who are above the age of 65 and meeting some other specific requirements. This is under the control of the government of United States.

The individuals need to be a US citizen if they have to be considered for Medicare. They have to be permanent resident of US for more at least 5 continuous years. Those who are disabled and receiving other benefits are eligible for Medicare even when they are below 65. US is covering a large number of citizens under their health care insurance.
